In 1926, Edward Gordon Craig was approached by Johannes Poulsen in Denmark, asking if Craig would design the set and costume for a production of Ibsen’s ‘The Pretenders’ at the Royal Danish theatre, to which Craig readily agreed.

This sub-series contains cardboard figures, created by Craig in planning his designs for the play as well as printed copies of his design, which was published in 1930.
