E.A. Craig collection: Papers relating to Edward Gordon Craig’s designs for Macbeth

While Edward Gordon Craig has previous toyed with the idea designing a production of ‘Macbeth’, his plans never came to anything until 1928 when American producer George Tyler, asked if he would design a production for New York. Craig would produce various designs and sketches for Tyler to use as he pleased.

This sub-series contains various papers relating to the 1928 ‘Macbeth’ project, including a manuscript written by Gordon Craig on ‘The Witches in Macbeth’; photographs of his designs; and cuttings concerning the production and Craig’s involvement.
The files have retained their original order, imposed by Edward A. Craig, which broadly reflects the nature of the material. The files have been placed in chronological order
