E.A. Craig collection: Edward Gordon Craig as a puppeteer
Series
During 1916, Edward Gordon Craig began to write puppet plays for his children, which he collectively called ‘The Drama for Fools’, written under the pseudonym ‘Tom Fool’. His enjoyment of the project led him to research puppet theatres. This eventually led to the idea of a magazine using the puppet plays – ‘The Marionette’

This sub-series contains papers relating to Craig’s various ideas, writings and designs based around puppets. It includes his artwork, manuscripts for his puppet plays, papers relating to the magazine ‘The Marionette’ and wooden and paper puppets used by Gordon Craig.
The files have been catalogued in chronological order.
In addition, further papers relating to ‘Drama for Fools’ were acquired separately. This have been catalogued under ‘Items acquired from Virginia Surtees’, but physically stored with this main collection relating to Craig’s marionette plays.
