Myers Museum [Eton Museum of Antiquities]
Series
Major William Joseph Myers (at Eton 1872 - 1875), returned to the school as adjutant, having served in the Army in Egypt. He came back with a remarkable collection of artefacts. He kept these in his home which he opened up to the boys on Sunday afternoons. On his death in 1899, he left his collection of Egyptian artefacts to the Head Master of Eton College, forming the Myers Museum.
The collection of antiquities was added to over the years, and when School Hall was built, a dedicated space was provided for them. After two more moves, in 2015 a purpose-built museum was provided in the Jafar Gallery, part of the Bekynton Fields complex. The collections are now part of the Eton Museum of Antiquities.
