Counterpart of lease, by the Provost and College to Richard Assheton, of Shetelyngton, co. Beds, yeoman, of the site of their moiety of the manor of Pyrton with all the demesne lands belonging, also the moiety of their two woods there called Odyngsylles woods, and all manner of rents and profits appertaining in as ample manner as one Thomas Samme late held the same, except all perquisites of courts and leets and the keeping of the same, and all great trees growing or that shall grow on the tenements there always reserved to the grantors. From Lady Day 1557 for 20 years. Rent £21 6s 8d and one boar to be delivered at Christmas or 20s. The lessee to keep the premises repaired with rough timber assigned to him therefrom. When the lessee fells timber for fuel or for sale he is to leave in every acre sufficient standers according to the statute and shall protect the springs and woods from all dangers so much as in him lies. The lessee to provide honest lodging with man’s meat and horse meat for one day and one night whenever a member of the College shall come or send another to hold a court there.
Seal, round, 15mm, red wax, on doubled tag. A fleur de lys.
