Eton has presented John Briggs to the living of Creeting worth £700 pa. Mr Carter takes the sinecure worth £250 or £300 [Southmere] which he gives up. Has received a portrait of Dr Foster 'neither well painted, nor well framed, nor is it a good likeness; but still it is a desirable addition to the collection at the Lodge.' Given by an old lady at Windsor who had it from Mr Reeves' executors.
