Series
At Eton in Mr Cruso's house from 1942 - 1948, he was Captain of the Oppidans. After attending Christ Church, Oxford, he became a diplomat and served in the Middle East and at the United Nations, among other postings, before being appointed Ambassador to Luxembourg in 1975. Two years later he moved to Spain and in 1979 returned to London as Head of the Foreign Office and, from 1982, of the Diplomatic Service. From 1986 - 1991 he was Ambassador to the United States and in 1991 was appointed Provost of Eton. He retired in 2000, and died in September 2021.
