Windsor, Berkshire: Indenture of lease

Indenture of lease for 21 years by the Provost of the King's college of our Blessed Lady of Eaton by Windesor, co. Bucks, and the College to John Fishborne, of New Windesor, co. Berks, gentleman, of 3 acres of arable land in a field called the Werth in the parish of New Windesor, abutting at one end on the garden of the lessee and a tenement of the Dean and Cannons of Windesor on the north, and at the other end on the lands of John Browne on the south, and adjoining at one side the pitts called Batchlers Acre on the south and east and at the other the orchard sometime of Roger Stakhouse, now of William Rewes, in the occupation of Henry Browne, baker, on the west. To hold from the Annunciation last. Yearly rent 2s payable at Michaelmas, and ½ bushel of wheat and 1 bushel of malt, as shall be approved by the bursers, baker and brewer of the College, or, in default of the wheat and malt, ready money for the same at the rate of the best wheat and malt in Windsor market. If the said rents are 28 days in arrears, the lease shall be void. The lessee must during the first year stake out the bounds of the property, and may not grant it away without the license of the lessors, except to his wife or children by his last will and testament.
