Title
Little Tew, Oxfordshire: Letter concerning inclosure
Level
Item
Date
5 April 1793
Content description
Thomas Stinton, Rector of Exeter College, Oxford, to the Rev. Edward Tew agreeing in opposition to Mr Nash's claims. "The vicar has an assertion in his letter to me which I received this morning 'that there are reasons for thinking Exeter College is as much bound to take care of the church duty as the Inpropriator.' I know not how he will make this out, but till he does, I think we may be allowed to consider it as rather paradoxical. As to the Inclosure in general, our College acceded to it at the request and upon the repeated and long continued solicitation of Mr Bignell, agent to Mr Wyld, the impropriator of the tythes. We shall be very willing to relinquish the design, if the Colleges of Eton and Brasenose and the other landholders wish it...".
