E.A. Craig collection: Edward Gordon Craig as an actor, stage director and theatre designer
Series
Throughout his career, Edward Gordon Craig undertook a variety of roles within the theatre, first as an actor, joining Henry Irving's company at the Lyceum Theatre. He ceased to act in 1897 and turned instead to stage design and direction, initially working closely with musician Martin Shaw, before turning his attention to various projects, including a production of ‘Hamlet’ at the Moscow Arts Theatre.

This series covers each aspect of Gordon Craig association with the theatre, from his acting through to his stage design; however, his acting career is only covered briefly. While it does not cover every project Gordon Craig was involved in, his major projects, including the Moscow production of ‘Hamlet’, ‘St Matthew’s Passion’ and his work with Martin Shaw, do feature prominently.
