Windsor, Berkshire: Indenture of lease

Indenture of lease for 21 years by the Provost of the King's College of Our Blessed Lady of Eton by Windesor, co. Bucks, and the College to Anne Bentley, of Oxford, widow of 3 acres of arable land in a field called the Werth in the parish of New Windesor, co. Berks, abutting at one end on the land sometime of William Gallis and Margaret Holden and now of Thomas Cotham and Henry Rutt on the east, and at the other on the land of John Browne on the west, one side lying upon the King's Pittes on the wouth and the other upon the orchard sometime of Andrew Waggs and now of Roger Stackhowse on the north; to hold from the Annunciation last. Yearly rent 2s payable at Michaelmas, and ½ bushel of wheat and 1 bushel of malt, as shall be approved by the Bursers, Baker and Brewer of the College, or indefault of the wheat and malt in, ready money for the same at the rate of the best wheat and malt in Windsor market. If the said rents are 28 days in arrears, the lease shall be void. The lessee must during the first year stake out the bounds of the property, and may not grant it away without the licence of the lessors, except to her children by her last will and testament.
