The Old Etonian Association was started by a letter in the Chronicle in November 1897, written by W. Durnford, assistant master, who became the first Honorary Secretary. The primary object was "to provide an organisation which may keep Old Etonians all over the world in touch with one another". The OEA has its own colours, black with a thin Eton blue stripe.
