The minutes of the Provost and Fellows record that on the 25 February 1919, "The offer of £400 for a prize from Mr Luddington was accepted". Two prizes were established, a senior and a junior prize, to encourage interest in agriculture and land management. The prize was a book token, first awarded in 1920.
