Will of Richard Deyne, of Burnham. His body to be buried in the cemetery of the parish church of St Peter in Burnham. Bequests: to the cathedral church of Lincoln 2d, to the altar of the parish church of Burnham 20d and to each prinicipal light in the same 4d (an interlineation notes that Robert Den paid a bequest of 20s to the church), to John Deyn, chaplain, his son, 4 marks for his yearly stipend for celebrating in the parish of Burnham, at the expense of Robert Deyn, the testator's son, to the said Robert and his wife the house in which the testator now dwells after the death of Isabel Deyn, the testator's wife, together with 5 acres of arable. The said Robert together with Isabel to occupy the said 5 acres as long as Isabel remains in the said house and not longer. They are then to revert to Robert and his wife. To Isabel and Robert his cart with four horses two oxen and all appurtenances, as long as the said Isabel remains there. And if there shall be any dispute between her and Robert concerning the cart or the plough, William Grey and Thomas Ley, together with John Hyll and Edmund Clewer, are to adjudicate and settle the same. To Thomas Deyn, his son, the house in which Robert Deyn aforesaid, on condition that within three years of the testator's death the said Joan is to have and possess the same. To Thomas Deyn aforesaid 2 acres lying in Burnham Breche, and a cow and a copper pot and pan to the use of his sons and daughters. To the said Isabel an acre of wheat and another of barley. To sir Richard Sperman, chaplain, a cow. To Robert Deyn, son of sir John Deyn, his son, half an acre lying in ly Water Dell. Robert, the testator's son, to observe the anniversary of his death and to spend thereon at least 20s yearly. Whenever Isabel shall no longer with to live there, then there ware to be demised to the use of Robert Deyn, the testator's son, in the said house one feather bed with another bed with a large cooking vessel (cacabo), a large copper pot, a large copper pan, a large spit, a hanging laver, a large folding table and "ledys and fattes and tubbes" pertaining to brewing. The residue of his goods to his wife except for his grove which is to be disposed of by his executors, viz. William Grey and Thomas Lay of Burnham, for the support of the priesthood. Appointment of the said executors and of sir Richard Sperman, chaplain as surveyor.
Endorsed that the will was proved before the official of the archdeacon of Buckingham 13 December 1489.
Seal of the official, pointed oval, 50 x 32mm, red wax, applied. Fragmentary. Part of a seated figure remains.
