Title

Provost Goodall: Letters to family

Sub-series

Date

1794 - 1840

Extent & medium

140 items

Content description

Mainly letters from Provost Goodall to his brother William Goodall, 1757 - 1844, with other letters to and from his nephew Joseph, William's son. The letters reveal a shared love of natural history, particularly shells, but the Provost also gives interesting sidelights on national figures, including royalty, and descriptions of his travels both in this country (where he visited many country seats of former pupils) and abroad. Eton affairs are touched on occasionally but were clearly of less interest to him.
